Social Skills and Emotional Intelligence

This week we spoke about social skills and how it’s very important for us as individuals to work on these skills and apply them in our workplace. The ability to communicate with the members of the society through gestures and personal appearances is one of the key factors in any industry. Building good relationships with other people can greatly reduce stress and anxiety in your life. One of the key aspects of Social skills is also Emotional Intelligence, it’s the ability to identify and manage your own emotions and the emotions of others. All through my college life I have learnt how to work on these skills and has grown as a person. College life makes an individual more confident and approachable. Living an independent life in college leads us to come out of our shell and break the walls of fear. We learn how to work in teams and respect each other’s opinions. Building relationships was something I learnt during my internship module, which helped me a lot in my portfolio. Work environment is very different from college atmosphere, attending meetings with designers and people in the industry makes you realize how difficult the real world actually is and also increases the confidence level in a person.

4. Coping with uncertainty

I was very socially awkward before but after working for a short period of time and interning with some of the best people, who made me feel very comfortable, I opened up and now I don’t feel scared to start up conversations. I feel I have become more approachable and learning how to build and maintain relationships is something very important I learnt through the course of time.
